Governor Mark Gordon signed the mobile-only sports betting bill into law on April 5, 2021. The new law — like Tennessee’s — allows for statewide mobile sports betting without whatsoever tether to a brick-and-mortar casino. Roy Cooper signed a 2019 bill to allow sports and horse race wagering on tribal lands, with such betting designated equally a ‘Class III’ gaming activity under the state compact. These states have seen some degree of legislative activity towards the legalization of sports betting in the past few years. The Maryland referendum would potentially allow for both in-person and mobile sports betting end-to-end the state. State lawmakers must immediately establish a regulatory apparatus and tax rate for legalized sports voters approved sports and events betting for the primary purpose of raising revenue for education by about a 2-1 margin.
